Alma Fiesta

Life at IIT is as much about imbibing the spirit of socio-cultural responsibility in students as it is about providing them technical prowess. Alma Fiesta, the socio-cultural fest of IIT Bhubaneswar, is the resultant of this very motto. It made its mark in 2010 as the biggest debutant fest in entire India. The first edition was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik. There were some very memorable performances, including Grammy award winner PanditVishwamohan Bhatt. There was an elaborate collection of events, competitions and workshops which reflected the various seen and unseen realms of cultural zest and fervor. These included various forms of dance, dramatics and music events.
Alma Fiesta 2011 was even more colossal in terms of associations, sponsorship as well as participation. The fest, which coincided with the holy festival of Makarsankranti, carried forward the torch of exuberance which had been lit a year before. It was inaugurated by Padma Vibushan Dr. P Rama Rao. The highlights were the mesmerizing performances by rock band Cynical Recess and the famous Bollywood singer, Krishna Beura.
Alma Fiesta has never been about fun and frolic only. It envisions the dream of making the young population concerned with the social and environmental problems of this world. It embodies the effort of augmentation of youthful energy with the sense of responsibility towards the society and the world which we live in. While Alma Fiesta 2010 raised voice about deforestation and global warming, Alma Fiesta 2011 provided a stage for expressing concerns and taking decisions regarding the rapidly decreasing population of Olive Ridley turtles of Odisha. Both the editions had events like Youth Marathon, Perspective (the social case study competition) which made the fest truly social in nature. We had associations with organizations like Red Cross, Bakul foundation etc. which are famous for their endeavors in the social domain.
These two editions of Alma Fiesta, along with the third one which is coming up in January 2012, have diversified the intellect of our students and provided them with invaluable managerial skills. They have become refined in their presentation and responsible in their deeds. We are sure that they will perform exemplarily wherever they go and do IIT Bhubaneswar proud.
