Accurate forecasts and timely warnings of the track
and intensity of tropical cyclones have the potential
to prevent significant loss of life and property.
Recently, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) signed a bilateral agreement with India’s Ministry of Earth Sciences (MOES) to improve tropical cyclone forecasting over the Indian seas.
In order to share NOAA’s advanced understanding and forecasting techniques acquired over the last few years, an advanced workshop and colloquium will be convened in the historic city of Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India for six days between July 9-14, 2012.
The workshop will also include colloquiums on a daily basis to facilitate in-house interactions between leading scientists in areas related to tropical cyclone predictions with the student community. The outcome of the lectures and colloquiums is expected to be published in a special volume by Springer.
