Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) offer Science based engineering education at Undergraduate level (B.Tech), Postgraduate level (M.Tech), Doctoral level (Ph.D) and Research Programmes. IITs also offer five year integrated Masters and Doctoral level programmes in various Science disciplines. Masters and Doctoral level programmes in Humanities, Social Science and Management are also offered by IITs. IITs are also engaged in national and internationally funded sponsored research and Industrial Consultancy. Continuing education and faculty development for other institutions are also its activities.

Prof. M. Chakraborty attended the Pan-IIT global conference held in Chicago IL, USA on 9-11 October 2009, organized by IIT Alumini.
Prof. G. Panda, PIC Academic Affairs attended the IIT London Chapter Meeting in London, UK on 5th October 2009.
The Institute started its PhD programme on 5th October 2009. Three scholars have joined in the School of Electrical Sciences and one in the School of Infrastructure.
Prof. G. Panda was awarded a project titled “Robust Nonlinear Channel Equalization, Identification and Prediction using Bio-inspired techniques” by the Dept. of Science and Technology, Govt. of India worth Rs. 20 lakhs.
Mr. Pyari Mohan Pradhan, PhD Scholar, School of Electrical Sciences and Mr. Satyasai Jagannath Nanda, Senior Research Fellow, School of Electrical Sciences have been awarded the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT), Govt. of Canada, Commonwealth Asia-Pacific fellowship for collaborative research with the University of Western Ontario. Both are working towards their PhD under the guidance of Prof. G. Panda.
