RESEARCH


The school is actively involved in academic/sponsored research and industrial consultancy work. Various research projects are being carried out in each of the micro specializations of Civil Engineering. The projects that are being conducted at present, comprehend both the experimental as well as simulation oriented research works. These research projects are being funded by various Govt. Organizations as well as Industries such as DST, CSIR, NALCO Bhubaneswar, etc. Both fundamental and application oriented research projects have been undertaken by the faculty members of the School. In this connection, it is worth mentioning that relentless efforts are being made by the faculty members of the School to bring the projects to face and solve the recent challenges of our modern society. These projects not only solve the present challenges but also create human resources in the form of JRF, SRF and research scholars in the field of Civil Engineering.

 

RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS

 
Zero Energy System for Decentralized Treatment of Domestic Wastewater
Out of many research activities show-cased in the Indo-US Technological Summit, Greater Noida, India, November 18-19, 2014, the research work entitled “Zero Energy System for Decentralized Treatment of Domestic Wastewater” from School of Infrastructure, IIT Bhubaneswar was highly appreciated by the Jury members. The same had been published in the Dainik Jagran News Paper dated 20/11/2014 (Greater Noida Edition). The developed sustainable and affordable system displayed immense potential in treatment of the rural domestic wastewater by exploiting waste materials. In addition, the system facilitated the conversion of waste into wealth by converting the waste materials used for wastewater treatment into nutrient supplier/organic fertilizer for agricultural application. The system was adjudged as a promising alternative for treatment of rural domestic wastewater in decentralized manner in developing countries. The research work was carried out by the research scholar, Prangya Ranjan Rout, under the supervision of Dr. Rajesh Roshan Dash and Dr. Puspendu Bhunia. 
Development of structural lightweight concrete
School of Infrastructure at IIT Bhubaneswar actively works on the development of structural lightweight concrete using sintered fly ash aggregate. The researcehrs have developed a new and reliable mix design methodology for the development of structural light weight aggregate concrete having compressive strength of 80 MPa and density was maintained well below 2000 kg/m3.
