Innovation needs brilliant minds, brilliant ideas, and a good place to incubate the ideas of brilliant minds. Historically India has been the world leader in innovation and knowledge.To rebuild the innovation ecosystem of India, Government of India has initiated the Startup India program.
Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar has been participating in this program in a spirited way. I took the responsibility on to my own shoulders and created a vision document for establishing a holistic echo system to promote innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship at the institute, in Sept 2015. The vision includes creating academic courses related to entrepreneurship, academic practices for fostering creativity and innovation amongst our students, establishing a technology incubator, startup center and broadening the activity by creating a Research and Entrepreneurship Park. Then on the institute has been acting upon with a strong will on realizing the vision. Relevant academic courses on entrepreneurship were introduced into curricula of the institute, a technology incubator was started in March 2016, the IIT Bhubaneswar Startup Centre was started on 20 June 2016 and the institute received the Certificate for Incorporation of the IIT Bhubaneswar Research and Entrepreneurship on 12th Oct 2017.
The aim of IIT Bhubaneswar Startup Centre is to identify and nurture good innovations by way of encouraging them to open startups and provide technical, financial, marketing, and legal support to incubate their ideas. The IIT Bhubaneswar Startup Centre has more than 40,000 square feet of space available for startups. Startups will be mentored not only by eminent faculty members of the Institute, but also volunteering experienced senior executives from the hinterland. The startups will also have access to the state-of-the-art laboratories of the institute to tinker their innovative ideas. On graduation, the startups will not only become epicenters for further innovations but also help in generating new skilled resources, generate new job opportunities, and invest money to propagate the innovation culture further.
I am confident that the startups, hosted by us, shall perform the best on technological, social, and economical front. I, on the behalf of the entire fraternity of IIT Bhubaneswar, cordially invite companies/individuals to come forward and let their innovations convert into commercial products/processes. I sincerely look forward to establishing a fruitful and long standing relationship.
