Last year, a total of 160 students had been placed (171 got offers) out of the 200+ who had registered. A total of 104 students from UG got placed from the total 126 registered.75% rise in placements were seen as compared to previous year in both UG as well as PG section. A good number of PG students (Around 80 percent) were placed with many getting selected for PHD in reputed colleges like IIT Bombay, IIST Bangalore etc. The Career Development Cell (CDC) of IIT Bhubaneswar takes care of all placements related activities. Alternatively, many students have also opted for further studies in well-known universities like Stanford, Imperial College, Columbia, IISc, etc. Some have even excelled in CAT and opted for the prestigious IIMs.
All the first year students will be residing in Argul campus, which is the permanent campus of IIT Bhubaneswar. There are two separate hostels for boys and girls in which 2 students will be allotted a room. Considering the fact that students have been facing considerable academic pressure and stress, the institute has decided to put 2 students in a room for the first year and then have individual rooms from the next year. This also helps students to bond better. Once the new hostels are built, each student will be allotted a single occupancy room. The hostel is fully ventilated and hygienic with regular cleaning. There is provision for 24 hours high speed internet connectivity via LANs, WiFi in the hostels. Students can register their complaints in the hostel office regarding any issue like maintenance or hygiene.

The food provided in the mess is of standard quality. A Mess Committee comprising of students themselves exists, which takes care of the quality of the food provided. The menu is decided after taking into consideration the suggestions of students and is a mix of North Indian and South Indian food.
Although the mess food is hygienic and has a variety in taste, there is a canteen in the residential area of the Arugul campus where students can have their food. There is a fruit shop, a bakery and an ice-cream parlour too. All these places are affordable and maintain the ideal standards of hygiene.
There is a well-equipped dispensary on campus, with a 24 hours availability of ambulance service from the hostels to the dispensary in case of any emergency. Doctors and staff nurses are on duty round-the-clock. A well-stocked medical shop is functional 24x7 at the Shopping Complex. The institute also provides its students with medical insurance.
IIT Bhubaneswar has signed MoUs with many foreign universities to promote research collaboration, faculty and student exchange. These include Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China; University of Warwick, UK; University of Edinburgh, UK; University of Southampton, UK; University of Western Ontario, Canada; University of Waterloo, Canada; University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, USA; University of New York, Buffalo, USA; University of Texas, USA, among many others. The laboratories are highly sophisticated and well-equipped. The apparatus used are accurate, of high standard and are mainly shipped from overseas. In addition, the students are also able to access the facilities of Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology and Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology for hands-on training. Besides these, there is 24 by 7 accessibility to Design Innovation Centre where students can work on their own innovative projects.
The societies in IIT Bhubaneswar encompass various fields in both the socio-cultural and technical domains. Students can be a part of socio-cultural societies including the dramatics society, dance society, literary society, music society, cinematic society, fine arts society, social welfare society, as well as technical ones like the robotics society, programming society, entrepreneurship cell, quizzing society, photography society, and web & design society. Workshops are conducted by these societies on a regular basis.
Every year there are auditions held for the induction of students into various societies. Selected students join the particular society and pursue their interest in the related field under the guidance of senior students. A student can join any number of societies depending upon his/her area of interest. Workshops are held before and after inductions to motivate students to take an active part in the societies of their choice.
The teaching standards do justice to the stellar reputation of the IITs. The institute has a versatile group of faculty members including visiting faculty from old IITs and reputed universities. Majority of the professors have done their PhD in IITs or highly reputed universities abroad. Several of them are recipients of academic honours and awards and have international postdoctoral research experiences. The focus of the faculty is on quality teaching, research and technology development. They are also actively involved in publishing papers, attending international conferences/workshops/ symposium and chairing session of the conferences.
There is a library in the Argul campus. The library is well-equipped with all prescribed books for various courses and is also subscribed to several helpful e-resources including e-libraries, journals and research collections. Thus, students have access to a large collection of printed and electronic resources. All undergraduate students may borrow 3 books at a time for the duration of 30 days whereas Postgraduate students can borrow up to 5 books at a time. Change of branch takes place after the end of two semesters. A minimum CGPA of 8.5 at the end of two semesters is required to apply for change of branch. Students can then specify their desired branches in their order of preference. For further details, refer: Branch Change Rule
There are various scholarships that come up from time to time. All the scholarship notices are put up in the notice boards as well as in the website and the students can get the forms and other details from the academic section of the college. Ragging of any form is strictly banned in the campus and hostel. Anyone indulging in the act of ragging is liable to severe punishment. First year students having any complaint with any troublesome senior can immediately report to their student guides, Assistant Coordinators, Coordinators, teachers or warden. Strict action will be immediately taken. An anti-ragging committee has been constituted by the Director. Surprise visits by faculty members to the hostels and interactions with the students serve as an effective means to implement the anti-ragging policy.
The Arugul campus is about 35 km from Bhubaneswar City. So, it takes around 40 to 50 minutes to travel between Arugul campus and Toshali Plaza on a normal traffic free day. There are buses available for transportation at scheduled timings.
Yes, there are sporting facilities available with dedicated coaches for cricket, basketball, football, volleyball, badminton, table-tennis etc. Every weekend, buses are scheduled for IMMT sports ground. Students can avail of the facilities of the Kalinga Stadium for athletics and swimming. An INTER-IIT Sports Meet is held annually and students are rigorously coached for participation in this. Hostel Day Games are also conducted. In the Spring Semester, a General Championship (GC) is also held where all the above mentioned sports are played by the students of different branches with prizes given out at the end of the semester.
Yes, there are certain rules of the hostel. The rules have been framed keeping in view the safety of students. Prior permission has to be taken from the warden or hostel authorities for availing private transport or for leave more than a day. Students are supposed to return before the scheduled time. In-time of SHR: 9:30 pm. In-time of MHR: 11:00 pm.
No, motorized vehicles are strictly forbidden. Vehicles if found in possession of students will be seized by the authorities and disciplinary action will be taken against them.
Yes. There is a Syndicate Bank ATM and a State Bank of India ATM within the Argul campus of IIT Bhubaneswar. There is also a Syndicate Bank branch and State bank of India branch inside our campus (in the Faculty Quarters). Additionally, there is a Syndicate Bank branch and ATM just outside the Samantapuri campus, an SBI Bank ATM in the Toshali campus, and an SBI bank ATM inside boys hostel as well.
All these will be issued to the students in the academic section within the first month of the semester.
No. The students are not allowed to keep or use any such electric appliances in the hostel, so they might not bother bringing them.
Parents are advised not to stay for 2-3 days as the STUDENTS GUIDES are always there to take care of the students and to make sure they do not face any trouble in adjusting to the new environment.
Yes. Visitors are provided accommodation for a short duration (1 or 2 days) in the guest house on payment basis. The student is supposed to intimate the hostel office before hand in order to avoid any inconvenience.
Wi-Fi is provided both in academic area as well as residential areas. A limit of 5 GB for each student per day is alloted which is more than adequate. Addition to this, there is LAN as well inside the hostel.

Yes. Every year three fests are being conducted. First there is Alma Fiesta (The socio-cultural fest) during 2nd week of january. Then E-Summit (The Entrepreneurship fest) during the end of january. The last but not the least Wissenaire ( The Techno-Managment fest) during the first week of february.

For first year undergraduates, classes are scheduled from 8.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. and for postgraduates the classes are from 9.00 a.m. to 5.30. p.m. (at the max) with an hour and half long lunch break. The PG students will have one day seminars during the second half of the day. There is at least one-half day in a week.
For travelling to the city, there are frequent institute buses. The timetable for the buses is regularly updated in the IIT BBS website. Transportation is also provided for PWD.
Autos are also available just outside the campus with the numbers of frequent drivers provided in the hostel office notice board. They can be called for nearby short visits to Jatni or even to the cityTo move within campus, cycle is the most viable option as there is quite some distance between the hostels and the academic buildings. Hence it is necessary for every new student to purchase a cycle. Cycle stalls will be available in the campus at the time of admission of the freshers. The available models may be bought on the spot or one may place an order for the cycle to be delivered later.
Different telecom providers set up stalls when the freshers arrive. These include Airtel, Vodafone and Jio. Sim cards can be bought from them at a nominal cost.
The fees are paid either online or via DD. The fee payment notice will be given well in advance with the exact amount. The Hostel Fees and Institute fees are paid in separate online windows.
Yes. Medical tests are quite essential for the doctor’s accessibility to the medical history in case of emergency.
IIT Bhubaneswar does have NSS as a part of Extra Academic Activities since last academic year (with around 100 volunteers). As a part of NSS, blood donation camps, awareness camps, cleaning campaigns are held. NSS volunteers teach in the Government schools of adopted villages once in a week. Your interest is the only criterion for selection into NSS.
