Introduction to Power Systems Stability Problem: Rotor Angle, Voltage Stability, Mid-term and Long-term Stability, Classification of Stability - Steady state, Dynamic and Transient stability; Basic Ideas Modeling of Synchronous machines; Overall control of generation unit- excitation systems and Governors; Different types of excitation systems, effect of excitation on stability, power system stabilizers (PSS); Generation/Frequency Characteristics and load frequency characteristics, tie-line bias control, Automatic Generation Control (AGC), Alert and emergency system operation control; State space formulation of single and multi-machine models with control equipments; Damping effects of flexible ac transmission system (FACTS) devices, Subsynchronous resonance (SSR); Control of reactive power flow: Automatic voltage regulator (AVR), on-load tap changer (OLTC) Transformers, FACTS, Static var compensators.
