Mechanics: Newtonian mechanics, Momentum, and Angular momentum of a system, Torque acting on a system, Conservation of linear and angular momentum, Central force, Galilean transformations, Galilean invariance, Planetary motion, Kepler's laws, Rigid body motion, Moment of Inertia Tensor.
Elasticity and Fluid motion: Hooke’s law, Elastic moduli, Poisson’s Ratio, Twisting a wire, Determination of Rigidity modulus, and moment of inertia. Idea of compressible and incompressible fluids, Equation of continuity; streamline and turbulent flow, Reynold’s number. Euler’s Equation. Bernoulli’s Theorem.
Waves and Oscillations: Simple harmonic motion, Damped oscillations, Forced oscillations with harmonic forces, Coupled oscillators, Normal modes, Resonance, Transverse waves on a string, Linear superposition, Interference-beats, Fourier series, Sound waves in air, Doppler Effect.
