School of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar, in collaboration with the IEEE Power Electronics Society had organized the First PhD Summer School 2023 for doctoral scholars with background in Power Electronics, during 10th to 14th July 2023. The objective was to encourage brilliant young minds to build careers in areas of Electrical Engineering including Power Electronics, Power Systems, Renewable Integration, Smart Grids, and Control Systems. 97 PhD Scholars working in the area of Power Electronics and its application across various institutes in India had attended the PhD Summer School. The inaugural session has been conducted on 10th July 2023 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, which was attended by Prof. A K Tripathy, former CPRI Director, as chief guest. The event also witnessed video Address by Prof. Brad Lehman, President of IEEE PELS, Prof. Liuchen Chang, Immediate Past President has presented the State of PELS to the audience in virtual mode. Prof. Mario Pacas, VP Global relations highlighted various awards and funding opportunities in IEEE PELS. Prof. Sanjib Kumar Panda, R-10 Reginal chair has provided insight to the activities in Region 10. Dr. Srinivas Bhaskar Karanki, India-Liaison has introduced the objectives of the PhD School and benefits of joining IEEE PELS to the participants.
In total, 14 sessions have been conducted, which included talks by experts from academia and industry, PhD talks and Hand on training. 13 PhD scholars presented their work to the peers, which was followed by very interactive Q&A Session. 4 Hands on training on FPGA, STM32 and C2000 Microcontroller had been arranged as a part of PhD Summer School. 10 Lectures, which included talks by Prof. A K Tripathy, Prof. Deepak Raj Diwan, Prof. Sanjib Panda, Dr. Kaushik Basu, Dr. Santanu Kapat, Dr. Krishna Dora, Dr. Subham Sahoo, Mr. Kedarnath, Mr. Kamaldeep, Dr. Srinivas Bhaskar Karanki have been delivered. All the participants are shown the laboratory facilities in IIT Bhubaneswar and special session on dSPACE has been arranged by PhD Scholars of IIT Bhubaneswar. Prof. Dehong Xu, VP Membership had given his welcome address to the audience.
The participants have been provided with bags and writing materials. Mr. Ranjan, IEEE Bhubaneswar Student branch chapter chair, Mr. Sanjib, Mr. Ravi Ranjan, Mr. Pragya Nand Singh and other scholars have actively volunteered the entire program successfully. The feedback from the participants was very much positive and many institutes/Chapters have shown interest in conducting the next edition of the PhD Summer School at their location.

The 2nd International Conference on Microwave, Optical and Communication Engineering (ICMOCE-2023) was held during 26-28 May 2023 at the School of Electrical Sciences, IIT Bhubaneswar in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. The conference was technically co-sponsored by IEEE (Kharagpur Section, Kolkata Section and Bhubaneswar Subsection). ICMOCE-2023 provided an international forum for the exchange of ideas on state-of-the-art research in microwave, optical and communication engineering.

3rd National Workshop on RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN SMART-GRID TECHNOLOGIES (NWSGT-2023) "Microgrids and Electric Vehicles" held during 27th and 28th January 2023 at the School of Electrical Sciences, IIT Bhubaneswar
Developments in Smart-Grid Technologies have gained momentum in recent years. This brings various issues starting from Integration and Control of Microgrids, Electric Vehicles, forecasting, wide area monitoring, communication, coordinated control & protection, security for effective and reliable operation of the electrical power networks. The 3rd National Workshop on RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN SMART-GRID TECHNOLOGIES (NWSGT-2023) "Microgrids and Electric Vehicles" aimed to include sessions with high-grade lecture talks and discussions followed by Laboratory practices on Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) and Renewable Emulator systems. Workshop on Safe And Secure Medical Devices held during 10th -11th January 2020 Organized at IIT Bhubaneswar
A workshop on Formal Methods for Safe and Secure Medical devices was organized at School of Electrical Sciences, IIT Bhubaneswar from 10th -11th January 2020. The same has been sponsored under the Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC), Govt. of India. The workshop covers about the formal methods based approaches used in the domain of medical devices. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Swarup Kumar Mahapatra, Dean Continuing Education, IIT Bhubaneswar. Prof. N.C. Sahoo, Head School of Electrical Sciences, IIT Bhubaneswar presided over the function. Also present on the occasion were Prof. Partha Roop, The University of Auckland, New Zealand, Dr. Mark Trew, The University of Auckland, New Zealand along with Col ( Dr.) Subodh Kumar, Registrar, IIT Bhubaneswar.
The event started with welcome address by Dr. Srinivas Pinisetty, Assistant Professor, IIT Bhubaneswar. The theme note of the workshop was presented by Prof. Partha Roop and Dr. Mark Trew. This was followed by an address by Prof. Swarup Kumar Mahapatra, Dean Continuing Education, IIT Bhubaneswar. Prof. N.C Sahoo, Head of School of Electrical Science greeted the audience and welcomed everyone.

The 2nd National Workshop on Recent Developments in Smart-Grid Technologies (NWSGT-2020) organised by IIT Bhubaneswar during 23-24th January 2020. Dr Saurabh Garg, CMD, OPTCL, Principal Secretary, Govt of Odisha, graced the inaugural function as Chief Guest. The inaugural event was presided over by Prof. R.V. Raja Kumar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar. The event started off with the welcome address by Dr. S. R. Samantaray, Coordinator of the workshop, followed by an interesting address by Prof. S. C. Srivastava, IIT Kanpur. The workshop received excellent response from all corners of the country and prestigious institutions, nominating their researchers, working engineers and faculty. Present during the occasion were Col (Dr.) Subodh Kumar, Registrar and Dr. Sabarimalai Manikandan, Assistant Professor, School of Electrical Sciences, IIT Bhubaneswar. The program was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Chandrasekhar Perumalla, Co-Coordinator of the workshop.

19th National Power Systems Conference, organised by School of Electrical Sciences, held during 19-21st December 2016 at IIT Bhubaneswar
The 19th National power System Conference NPSC-2016 held at the School of Electrical Sciences, IIT Bhubaneswar during 19-21 December 2016. The main theme of the NPSC-2016 was "Towards reliable, safe and secure Smart-grid infrastructure". The conference was inaugurated by Prof. M. Ramamoorty,Ex, Director General, CPRI, Bangalore as Chief Guest, Prof Saifur Rahman, IEEE PES President Elect, as Guest of Honour, Prof R V Raja Kumar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar presided over the inaugural function. Prof S C Srivastave, Chairman, NPSC National Standing committee and Dr S R Samantaray, Convener, NPSC-2016 coordinated the conference. The conference honoured Shri R N Nayak, Ex CMD, POWERGRID for Industry excellence award and Prof D Thukaram, IISC for Academic Excellence Award. Shri Mata Prasad received IIT BHU Malviya Excellence Award for life time achievement.

Ishan Vikas Scheme, MHRD 7-21, December 2016 IIT Bhubaneswar
Under the "Ishan Vikas" scheme of MHRD, IIT Bhubaneswar hosted 42 school students, including 5 of their teachers from north-east region of India, representing the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Mizoram, from 7th - 21st December 2016. The participating students had a great experience at IIT Bhubaneswar over last 15 days of the program, which included several scientific talks, laboratory visits and interaction with faculty members of various schools of IIT Bhubaneswar, including school of electrical sciences.
