Three Day National Seminar on “History and Heritage of Sun Worship- Scientific and Religious Implications of Sun – The Centre of Solar-system” to be organized by IIT Bhubaneswar in association with ICHR, New Delhi

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences and Management, (SHSSM) IIT Bhubaneswar in collaboration with Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), New Delhi and Indian Oil Corporation, New Delhi is organizing a three day seminar on “History and Heritage of Sun Worship- Scientific and Religious Implications of Sun – The Centre of Solar-system” during 26th-28, December, 2021 and the inaugural program is scheduled to be held on Sunday 26th December at Yatri Nivas, Konark.

The sun is central to human existence and Odisha has the honor of having the magnificent structure for the worship of Sun in the temple of Konarka. This is for the first time a grand event on sun worship is being organized with such prolific speakers participating from around the globe to deliberate on different aspects of Sun worship delving into various aspects of history, heritage, art, architecture besides science and technology that has gone into designing and building the temples and is essential for the preservation of the temple like Konarka, which is crumbling.

The Seminar is going to be inaugurated by Shri Ranjan Kumar Mohapatra, Director, Indian Oil Corporation who would be the Chief Guest of the inaugural function. Prof. R.V. Raja Kumar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar will preside over the function and deliver the presidential address. The inaugural plenary addresses will be delivered by Professor Omkar Nath Mohanty, Former Professor, IIT Kharagpur, Former Vice Chancellor, BPUT Odisha and Dr. R. Balakrishnan IAS, researcher-historian, who is the Chief Advisor to the Chief Minister of Odisha.

The event is going to be coordinated by Prof. Godabarisha Mishra, Visiting Professor and Prof. Swarup Kumar Mohapatra, Head, SHSSM, IIT Bhubaneswar. The seminar aims to conceptualize the role of the sun in human existence at historical, scientific, literary and philosophical levels. The three day event comprises of 32 speakers from across the country who are going to present their papers on the theme of the event and enlighten on newer perspectives on the importance of sun in the life of the universe. The event is truly first of its kind with a unique theme and approach and is sure to create lasting impression towards understanding deeper implications of Sun worship in the world.
