Dash, Dr. Sumanta Haldar, Dr. Radhika Bayya. The students were accompanied with two research scholars namely, Mr. Gautam S Nair and Mr. Tappiti Chandrasekhara. This was a field trip to an IndianOil Corporation Limited (IOCL) oil refinery plant located in the industrial city of Paradip. The purpose of the trip was to broaden the scope of understanding within students and to give them a practical knowledge of the theories that they learn in the classroom. Initially, a small interaction with the IOCL officials was organized and they gave a presentation about the various phases of IOCL and the refinery plant. The participants could understand the various exploration techniques observed for oil and gas and how the by-products like Pet Coke are transferred for further use. In addition, we could visit a construction site inside the oil refinery where massive hoppers are being constructed. The construction is carried out by Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T). The officials of L&T accompanied with us and explained the various design provisions that they undertook in their construction activities. The participants are highly grateful to IOCL and L&T for their kind co-operation and hospitality.
