Biosketch

Dr. Madhusmita Dash is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar. She has completed her PhD in Economics from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. In her thesis entitled – “Economic Analysis of Biodiversity Conservation: The Case of Similipal Tiger Reserve in India”, she has discovered the synergies and trade-offs between conservation of ecosystem services and local livelihood sustainability. Her primary research interests are in the field of Environment Economics, New Institutional Economics, and Economics of Natural Resource Management and Rural Development. Currently she is working on issues related to Trans-boundary Water Conflict, Ecotourism, Climate change and Renewable Energy contribution to Sustainable Rural Livelihood. Her teaching interests include Microeconomics, Environment Economics, Econometrics, Behavioral Economics and Public Policy and Choice. She has received Young Social Scientist award by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India, in collaboration with United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), European Union, UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) during “Natural Capital Accounting and Valuation of Ecosystem Services (NCAVES) India Forum 2021. She is also the recipient of Right Livelihood Junior Scientist award by DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) in 2013. She has published her works in many ABDC/Scopus indexed journals of repute like Land Use Policy, Natural Resources Forum, Energy Nexus, Environmental Challanges, Forest Policy and Economies, Journal of Forest Economics etc. She has also presented her work at many globally looked upon institutions like the University of Notre Dame du Lac (Italy), University of Manchester (UK), University of Utrecht (The Netherlands), University of Bonn (Germany), German Development Institute (Germany), ICIMOD, People’s Republic of China, International Institute of Social Studies (The Netherlands) etc.
