AI in Smart City and Smart Grid

Area Lead: : Prof Subhransu R Samantaray

The AHRC team is developing AI/ML enabled technologies for building future smart cities and smart grids in collaboration with major academic and govt institutions with expertise in this area. The team is working with state smart city authorities, national power utility companies and transportation authorities to provide intelligent solutions to emerging challenges and building future technologies. Major thrust areas include developing intelligent transportation systems and reliable surveillance systems for efficient monitoring and control of traffic systems. AI enabled optimization for Integration of EVs, charging stations and renewables are being studied to support the future transportation systems.

Smart grid research at AHRC is focussed on developing intelligent systems and solutions for Microgrid monitoring and Automation, Integration of renewables and storages, demand side management and energy management in microgrid environment, Protection and controls of AC/DC microgrids and Data Analytics for the grid operation and management. Building Resiliency in power grids is another major area which includes development of catastrophe predictors and Dynamic Security Assessment of large power grids and securing the power networks against intrusion attacks. AHRC is engaged in developing AI enabled Digital Twin frameworks for operation and management of future smart grids and smart cities.
