The Engineering Unit is dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure of our vibrant IIT Bhubaneswar campus. From the upkeep of civil and electrical facilities to the beautification of our green spaces, we strive to create a safe, efficient, and sustainable environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Our team also works closely with Project Management Consultants to drive the ongoing development and expansion of the campus. We take pride in supporting the Institute’s mission through our commitment to excellence in campus maintenance and development.
About Us
Roles and Responsibilities The Engineering Unit of IIT Bhubaneswar is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and improvement of campus infrastructure across three key domains: Civil, Electrical, and Horticulture.
In addition to routine maintenance, we also undertake smaller-scale new works to address emerging needs and improve the campus experience.
Another crucial role of our unit is coordinating with Project Management Consultants (PMCs) for campus development projects. The campus has already seen the successful completion of two major construction phases (Phase I by CPWD and Phase II by NBCC), and we are actively engaged in ongoing development under Phase III with RITES.
Through teamwork, efficiency, and dedication, we aim to provide a well-maintained and welcoming campus for all.

Our Activities
- Civil Maintenance: Routine upkeep and repairs of buildings, roads, drainage systems, water supply, plumbing, and other civil infrastructure.
- Electrical Maintenance: Ensuring reliable operation of electrical systems, including power supply, lighting, and backup systems.
- Horticulture Maintenance: Maintaining and improving campus greenery, landscaping, and gardens to promote a healthy and aesthetic environment.
We undertake minor new construction and installation works to support the evolving needs of the Institute. These include modifications, extensions, and new small-scale infrastructure projects.
We act as the nodal unit for coordinating with PMCs and stakeholders for larger campus development projects. Our milestones include:
• Phase I: Completed by CPWDÂ
• Phase II: Completed by NBCC
• Phase III: Ongoing with RITES
We continue to liaise with all parties to ensure timely and quality execution of these projects.
Major Achievements
Over the years, the Engineering Unit has contributed to the development of world-class infrastructure at IIT Bhubaneswar. Key achievements include:
- Completion of all Phase I and Phase II construction.
- Maintenance of uninterrupted utilities and services to support academic and residential life.
- Successful implementation of sustainable practices in landscaping and infrastructure maintenance.
- Continuous improvement of facilities to meet the growing needs of the campus community.
